John Fleck is conscious and talking in hospital after collapsing during Sheffield United’s Championship clash with Reading.
The midfielder fell to the ground unchallenged in the 63rd minute of the Blades’ 1-0 win against Reading at the Madesjki Stadium on Tuesday night.
Fleck was given urgent medical attention and after a ten minute stoppage in play, was taken off on a stretcher and out of the ground to a waiting ambulance.
The incident put the result into near-insignificance but the match later concluded with Sheffield United winning 1-0 – Jayden Bogle scoring the winner.
Sheffield United revealed after the match that Fleck was conscious when he left the stadium via the ambulance gate.
He was taken straight to the Royal Berkshire Hospital to undergo tests.
Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic said: “John is conscious, he is in the hospital, he is talking with the doctors and he is in good hands.
“We hope everything will be okay and we expect everything will be fine. He was talking and he asked for the result.
“I didn’t really see the incident but it looked like he just collapsed, without any physical contact around him.
“I am not a doctor but the news is positive. It was not an easy situation for everybody.”
Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad tweeted: “Get well John Fleck.”
Reading manager Veljko Paunovic expressed his hope that Fleck will make a full recovery.
He added: “The experience we all had tonight was so dramatic and so horrible.
“I hope that John will return as soon as possible in good shape in his normal life, and to play football like he did before.
“Hopefully, there are no other consequences [for him] after this.”
