Novak Djokovic insisted he was not an antivaxer yesterday as medical experts argued that his stance on Covid-19 jabs could “cause harm” and undermine the response to the pandemic.
The men’s world No 1 tennis player said he was prepared to sacrifice his tennis career and the chance to become the most successful player of all time rather than be forced to take a Covid vaccination.
In an interview with the BBC, he insisted he was not part of the antivaccine movement but said that his right to choose was more important to him than being allowed to compete in the French Open, Wimbledon or other future major tournaments. Speaking in Belgrade, Djokovic, 34, confirmed he was unvaccinated.
