KFC has revealed plans to open new restaurants, or relocate existing branches, across 500 locations in the UK – and four of them will be in Cornwall.

The fried chicken chain, which already has more than 900 branches in the UK, has proposed new drive thrus in four Cornish towns, namely: Falmouth/Penryn, Newquay, Saltash, and Truro.

It will be the first KFC drive thru to open in Saltash and Truro, whereas Falmouth and Newquay will be welcoming the chain back to their towns following recent closures of previous branches.

The news comes after the fast-food chain listed hundreds of locations on its website where it want to open new sites – with plans for more full-size restaurants and drive-thrus.

However, as this is just a proposed list of locations where KFC wants to expand, there is no guarantee that restaurants will definitely pop up in each new site.

On the KFC website, they say: “We’re on the lookout for over 500 sites.”

It then invites developers to get in touch if they have a space that could be of interest, and says the company will pay £20,000 “for all recognised introductions.”

According to the company, drive thru sites are its most popular type and can be fit into vacant sites of more than 0.3 acres. Existing building conversions will also be considered.

Meanwhile, its restaurant options are considered where drive-thrus cannot be accommodated.
