Jesy Nelson’s new music video has caused huge controversy with Leigh-Anne Pinnock allegedly asking an influencer to call her former bandmate out for “blackfishing”
Jesy Nelson’s new music video has caused a huge backlash after the singer was accused of “blackfishing”.
The 30-year-old has been criticised by people who have accused her of darkening her skin and wearing wigs to look like a black or mix-raced person in the video for her debut solo single Boyz.
One of those to have appeared to be offended was her former bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
Over the weekend, TikTok sensation NoHun shared a number of screenshotted messages to him from a user who claimed to be Leigh-Anne.
In one of the messages, Leigh-Anne allegedly urged the influencer to create a video about Jesy being a blackfish.

She went on to say that Leigh-Anne had also asked her before if she was mixed-race because she tans easily.
Jesy said: “Leigh-Anne even said to me in the group ‘Are you sure you’re not mixed-race because you go darker than me in the sun?'”
The alleged comments by Leigh-Anne didn’t sit well with rap sensation Nicki, 38, who went on a huge rant about Jesy’s former pal.
Nicki hit out at Leigh-Anne for working with Jesy for almost 10 years in hit band Little Mix before quickly turning against her once she quit.
She said: “Immediately that person has to wear a big red clown nose and big clown boots because you’re a big f**ing clown.”
The Anaconda singer also said that lots of women get tans and fake lips, and it doesn’t mean Jesy is trying to look like she isn’t white.
She continued: “There are lots of women out here in the United States that tan, get bigger lips, get all types of s** done to themselves.
“I wear blonde hair, straight blonde hair down to my feet if I want to when I want to, contacts, whatever, I do whatever the f**k I want.
“As long as you’re not hurting anybody or speaking negative about anybody’s race or culture, you should be able to enjoy your makeup, your body however you want to.”
Jesy was seen to be nodding along for much of Nicki’s rant.
Nicki went on to tell Leigh-Anne to “take them text messages and shove it up ur f**king a**” in her no-holds-barred comments.
Jesy eventually thanked Nicki for standing up for her and added that it was never her intention to cause aggravation.
She said: “While we’re on this subject I personally want to say my intention was never ever to offend people of colour with this video and my song.
“Like I said when I was a young girl this is the music that I listened to, these are the videos I watched and thought were the best.”
