Ade AdepitanWisbech-born Cundy is at his 6th paralympics and has previously won medals in swimming in addition to cycling. Of the final leg the 42-year-old stated: “I was tucking in to conserve as much energy as possible, and after that it was like its time to go now. Everything Ive got, whatever thats left, I just put it into the pedals. Fortunately it sufficed – by 0.1 or something. It was unbelievably close. A phenomenal race, both people well inside the world record. It was like the ideal race to end the best competition.”Cox, who was made an MBE for services to sports in 2017, was the only woman in the final, with the Chinese choosing to field an all-male group. Afterwards she said “It was so great to have a female on the podium. That female simply took place to be me. Its great to see. Its a mixed team sprint and I think it needs to be blended.”The Leeds-born 30-year-old also applauded the cosmetics of the British cycling group and the diversity of ParalympicsGB, saying: “Its unity in diversity isnt it? It does not matter what your background is where you originate from, whether youve acquired a disability or were born with a disability, were simply fantastic professional athletes. Thats it. As much as we have impairments, were simply professional athletes, and were excellent at what we do.” goalExceededMarkerPercentage heading #paragraphs We will be in touch to remind you to contribute.
