Half-time ratings

Jordan Pickford – 7

Untested throughout the first half until the final minute when out of nothing he had to go full stretch to turn a long-range drive from Mathias Normann around his right-hand post.

Ben Godfrey – 6

Still shaking off the rust to get back to those stellar physical levels we saw last season but generally solid against his former club.

Lucas Digne – 6

In this kind of fixture you’d expect the Everton captain for the day to be peppering the visitors’ box with a string of crosses but he couldn’t get as many in as you’d have hoped.

Michael Keane – 7

Tidy in possession and kept the ball moving as Everton attempted to build attacks from the back.

Yerry Mina – 7

Steady enough at the heart of defence, he and partner Keane were seldom troubled.

Allan – 6

A bit hit and miss but always probing and it was his forward run than caused Kop flop Ozan Kabak to make the wild challenge that earned Everton their penalty.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7

Energetic and purposeful, this was a chance for him to display his midfield abilities in the opponents’ half of the field.

Andros Townsend – 7

Some dangerous crosses from wide. Should have done better with a chance at the back post but kept his cool to confidently despatch the penalty after a long delay.

Alex Iwobi – 5

You could see that Norwich were afraid of his pace whenever he ran at them but all too often, he’d take the wrong option and give the ball away.

Demarai Gray – 7

Operating in a central role, his pace and fancy footwork kept Norwich on their toes but arguably looks more dangerous when out wide.

Salomon Rondon – 5

Struggled to hold the ball up and still looks off the pace for the rigours of the Premier League. There was a delicate, cushioned touch to set up Townsend though.
