Adam Brumm, an archaeologist at the Australian Research Centre for Human Evolution at Griffith University in Brisbane, who co-led the research, said: “This is the very first time anybody has actually reported the discovery of ancient human DNA from the large island region between mainland Asia and Australia. Mr Brumm said: “It is very rare to find ancient human DNA in the damp tropics– thats why this is such a fortunate discovery. The precise route they took is still unknown.Cave paintings and tools that have been discovered suggest that human beings were living on these islands around 47,000 years ago but due to the tropical climate these records could be unreliable.
